The ministry of education is organising a post-budget webinar on the implementation of key announcements in the Union Budget 2026-27 on March 9. The University Grants commission has asked higher education institutions to attend and said in its circular that the prime minister, Narendra Modi, will address the webinar. It will be on education, skills and university townships.
The objective of the webinar is to develop implementation strategies, timelines, inter-ministerial coordination mechanisms, and actionable pathways to translate budget proposals into outcomes, according to an official statement.
Themed “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas: Fulfilling Aspirations of People,” the webinar will be on budget announcements on education, skilling, creative industries, inclusive capacity building, and institutional infrastructure, the UGC said. The commission has asked institutions to also inform teachers and students "to facilitate discussions on issues having far-reaching consequences to the higher education sector".
Apart from the main address, "breakout sessions" will look at the five university townships, having a girls' hostel in every district for science and engineering institutions, the High Powered 'Education to Employment and Enterprise' Standing Committee, AVGC Content Creator Labs, the new National Institute of Design, new telescopic infrastructure and more -- all promises from union budget 2026.
Apart from the ministers and bureaucrats from the relevant ministries, participants will include members of the government think-tank NITI Aayog and academics from Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc) Bengaluru, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) and beyond.
The commission has asked the higher education institutions (HEIs) across the country to invite students and faculty members to take part in the webinar. Students and faculty members from colleges and universities can also join the webinar through the official streaming links available on Webex, YouTube, Facebook and X platforms.
