Google DeepMind, along with Google Research and Google.org, has announced a partnership with the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF),India's top research body to expand the use of artificial intelligence in scientific research and education in India. The statement by Google DeepMind said that the collaboration will focus on advancing scientific discovery and supporting students and teachers through AI powered learning tools.

The partnership will provide Indian researchers, engineers and early-career scientists access to frontier AI models for research and experimentation. These include AlphaGenome, which analyses how DNA mutations affect gene functions; AI Co scientist, a multi agent virtual research collaborator; and Earth AI, which supports environmental monitoring and disaster response.

Google DeepMind announced a $30 million Google.org Impact Challenge: AI for Science, which will fund researchers, nonprofits and social enterprises working on scientific discovery and provide selected participants engineering support and infrastructure through a dedicated accelerator. As per the statement, the initiative is intended to help participants convert research concepts into scalable scientific applications.

Deepmind to bring AI into Indian Classrooms

Google DeepMind said it will expand classroom use of AI through partnerships with Indian education institutions. Working with Atal Tinkering Labs, which covers over 10,000 schools and 11 million students, the company plans to integrate robotics, coding and Gemini based AI assistants into learning environments and teacher workflows.

In collaboration with PM Publishers Pvt. Ltd., more than two million textbooks across 2,000 schools will be converted into interactive AI-enabled learning material using QR based assistants. Each textbook will include a digital assistant designed to provide explanations, summaries and responses related to the subject matter.

The company also said its AI literacy programme, Experience AI, has reached around 300,000 students and 8,000 teachers in India.

As per the statement, teachers will receive real time instructional assistance through AI tools, including suggestions for practical demonstrations, troubleshooting experiments and guiding project based learning activities.

Google DeepMind added that it will support development of local language AI systems through the Indic Language Technologies Research Hub at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay to improve accessibility of AI in education. The company said incorporating regional languages is intended to make AI tools usable across diverse educational settings.
